Importing multiple photos to the White Knuckle 4x4 Web site
You'll need to upload your photos via FTP (File Transfer Protocol). You can use a stand-alone FTP client like Filezilla (PC) or Transmit (Mac), or with your Firefox browser you can use the FireFTP plugin (Mac/PC).
Filezilla: http://filezilla.sourceforge.net
Transmit: http://www.panic.com/transmit
FireFTP: http://fireftp.mozdev.org
Uploading Images - FTP Information
Host: ftp.thenewstribune.com
Username: whiteknuckle
Password: knuck13h3ad
This will drop you into the correct folder for uploading your photos. You can upload images as .gif, .jpg, .jpeg and .png. Other formats (like .bmp, .psd or .tiff) can be uploaded, but can't be resized, and will screw up the look of the site.
You can upload your images directly to this folder, or upload a folder of images, or even upload a folder with sub-folders all with images.
If you need more help than this with using an FTP client or FireFTP, give me a call or drop me an e-mail.
Importing your Images
Once your images are uploaded to the folder, it is a simple process to import them into our web site.
- Make sure you're logged into the site and select "Image import" from the left navbar. If you're an Editor of the site you'll need to access this through "Administer>>Image import". Administrators use "Administer>>Content Management>>Image
- All images capable of being imported will be displayed by filename on the Image Import page. Check the boxes of the images you want to import. You can check all the boxes at once by selecting the check box in the header next to "Name". You may find it beneficial to import subsets that correspond to the categories you want to assign them to (see below).
- Give the images you've checked a title. This field will automatically be filled in with the filename, which is fine if it is "Rimrock Vista" but not so intuitive if it is "DSG00345". You can also add a "Body" if you like to serve as a caption.
- Select at least one of the categories … preferably the Member: category. Select your name to make it easier to find and edit the images later. You can automatically put them into an existing photo gallery, or categorize them by location or activity.
- Click on the "Import" button. The page will report which images were successfully imported.
Finding and Editing your Images
If you've added your images to a gallery, you can find them through "Image galleries" in the left navbar. You can then select individual images, click "Edit" and edit the properties of the image including changing categories.
If you didn't add the images to a gallery, you can find them through "Recent posts" in the left navbar.
